I was impressed with how Claudio Soares talks about the role of teaching in developing the student’s ‘expression’.  It’s not about ‘teaching’ but rather ‘doing something together’, and in this way the student experiences how you experience the same activity, the same ’emotion’.  Not emulating you, but learning with you.

He emphasizes the importance of working with the kids, more than working ‘with the music’.  He often takes his students to museums, to show ‘different ways to express things’.  Instead of focusing on style, appreciating where personal expressions comes from.
